Swimming at  West Byfleet Junior School

At West Byfleet Junior School, we are fortunate that we are able to secure lessons for our pupils at Guildford Spectrum, who also have excellent resources for all levels of swimming.

Lessons

Years 4 and 5 will receive 30-minute lessons, every Wednesday afternoon for 10 weeks.

In addition, we also provide 'Booster lessons' for Year 6 children that have not achieved the National Curriculum requirement. These will take place in the summer term.

National Curriculum

All Primary schools must provide swimming and water safety lessons in either Key stage 1 or 2.

Each pupil is required to be able to do the following:

• Perform safe self-rescue in different water based situations
• Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
• Use a range of strokes effectively, for example, front crawl, backstroke and breast stroke

Freedom Leisure provides a very comprehensive programme of swimming at Spectrum in Guildford which both caters for and exceeds the National Curriculum expectations. 

We also invite children to take part in WASPS Swimming gala and the Surrey "Fish out of Water", Life saving Competition.
